the objective of publicity-oriented c/e translation is to ensure the target audience#8217;s accurate and obstruction-free comprehension of the messages the source text conveys. to meet this goal, the translator should adopt a target language-centered approach and should, on the basis of that, strive to negotiate the differences among the stylistic norms, logical patterns, and cultural dispositions encoded respectively in the two languages concerned.
before we begin to study the foreign-oriented publicity materials translation, we should understand the definition of ”duiwai xuanchuan”. about the term ”duiwai”, it means to connect with or involve more than one nation. ”duiwai” can also be translated into ”foreign” which means ”involving or dealing with other countries” (longman dictionary of contemporary english, 1997; 552, 774, 1012). then come to the chinese term ”xuanchuan”, some scholars take ”publicity” as its meaning which refers to ”the dissemination of information of promotional material or the information with news value issued as a means of gaining public attention or support” (oxford advanced learners dictionary of current english, 1997: 1167)
2. 研究的基本内容、问题解决措施及方案
In order to make a clear outline of my thesis, firstly I collect the materials on publicity-oriented C/E translation and understand some basic translation theories such as the Skopos Theory. I have to read the articles to fully understand the origin of the Skopos Theory and how the theory effects the publicity-oriented C/E translation. Thanks to the widely-used Internet which helps me a lot with the finding of some C/E publications. In the progress of writing, I have studied many scholars#8217; strategies on C/E translation and gained some special opinions. I have learned the important principle which asks the translators to pay due attention to target text readers and how to apply it in the translation of C/E materials. Last but not least, my supervisor helps me a lot with this thesis. She constantly gives some grammatical suggestions. And she often gives me phones and discusses with me on the important parts to ensure the analysis reasonable and veridical.
The thesis consists of three parts. The first part will primarily provide general introduction, including the general description of the purpose, the significance and the structure of the thesis. The second part focuses on the theory applied in publicity-oriented C/E translation, including the studies on Skopos Theory and application of Skopos, showing the importance and necessity of Skopos Theory in publicity-oriented C/E translation. Next, the study will focus on the strategies of C/E translation, mainly on dealing with the differences among the two languages#8217; expression, cultural roots and the handle of paragraph division.
