english and chinese, belonging to two diverse language families, are different in the linguistic form. english’s progressively using the noun, preposition, adjective and adverb presents the static tendency while the typical verb using of chinese show the dynamic tendency. taking the two contrasting tendencies as the start point, this paper choose zhang peiji’s translation as object in order to study the static and dynamic transformation of english and chinese.

primarily, the paper analyzes the features of vocabulary usage of english and chinese respectively: the nominalization, the advantage of preposition, adjective and adverb and the use of delexical verbs in english; the continuous use, the repetition and the overlap of verbs in chinese. the stark contrast in vocabulary usage highlights the static tendency of english and dynamic tendency of chinese.

based on the contrast, the paper conducts the study on transformation in english-chinese and chinese-english translation and comes to the translation strategy: turning static into dynamic in english-chinese translation and turning dynamic into static in chinese-english translation.
