生态语言学视角下的中国网络流行语研究 An Analysis of Chinese Internet Buzzwords from the Perspective of Eco-linguistics毕业论文

 2020-02-15 19:15:45

Abstract

This thesis mainly focuses on the diversity and dynamics of Internet buzzwords from the perspective of eco-linguistics, an interdisciplinary study of the interaction between language and environment. To illustrate the diversity of Internet buzzwords, the relationship between the network language ecology and the natural ecology, and the changes in the network environment, this thesis takes the Internet buzzwords in recent years as the research object, analyzing the features, types and trends of Internet buzzwords and studying the development process of Internet buzzwords. The author believes that the diversity of online buzzwords conforms to the principles of language ecology, but some problems caused by the prevalence of online buzzwords should not be ignored. A dynamic and long-term perspective should be adopted to create a healthy and sustainable language environment.

This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter reviews the formation and development of eco-linguistics and Internet buzzwords and introduces the layout of the thesis. The second chapter explains the concepts of buzzwords and eco-linguistics, looks into the relationship between Internet buzzwords and ecological awareness from the aspects of diversity and dynamics. The third chapter discusses the ecological environment of Internet buzzwords and proper attitudes to Internet buzzwords. The forth chapter draws a conclusion.

An Analysis of Chinese Internet Buzzwords from the Perspective of Eco-linguistics

  1. Introduction
    1. Background and Literature Review

In recent years, with the deterioration of the global ecological environment, scholars from all over the world have sought to solve problems through a sense of social responsibility and scientific mission. Linguists explore the possible impact of language on the adjustment of ecosystems from a linguistic perspective, as well as the possible role of ecological destruction and ecological coordination. As an emerging discipline, ecological linguistics has entered people's vision.

In 1972, the American linguist and Professor E. Haugen of Stanford University made a metaphorical analogy between the linguistic environment and the biological environment. For the first time, the concept of “ecology of language” was pointed out, and language ecology was the discipline of the interaction between language and its environment. Haugen's linguistic ecological metaphor has led to successive studies on "ecological linguistics" or "linguistic ecology", and has laid the foundation for the study of ecological linguistics. In the 1980s, a group of scholars at the University of Bielefeld in Germany, such as P Finke and W. Trampe, further applied ecological principles and methods to language research. In 1990, M. Halliday's landmark report at the International Conference on Applied Linguistics called on linguists not only to pay attention to the role of language in ecological issues, but also to examine language and language studies as part of ecological issues. It pioneered the ecological criticism of language systems. In 2004, Dr. Mark Gamer began using the term eco-linguistics in his new book, Language: An Ecological View, marking the formal formation of the discipline of eco-linguistics.[1][1]

Eco-linguistics provides a new way of thinking and research methods of scientific understanding, taking into account not only the social context in which language is embedded, but also the ecological context. Eco-linguistics is based on the recognition of the three basic principles of ecology. These three basic principles are: recognizing and protecting the diversity of living things; recognizing the role of each other; recognizing the integrity and unity of living things rather than being isolated from one another.

The study of network language and Internet buzzwords began in the early 20th century. In just ten years, the dictionary and monographs on the study of online languages were published one after another. The research on Internet buzzwords is less than that of other online languages, but it has also become a hot spot for scholars in recent years. The emergence and development of Internet buzzwords in China is only a matter of decades, and the study of Internet buzzwords began in the late 1990s. At present, the perspectives of online popular language research in Chinese linguistics mainly focus on the definition of network buzzwords, the reasons for the formation of internet buzzwords, the social and cultural factors as well as psychological factors behind internet buzzwords. For the generation of network buzzwords, the most influential is to explain the causes of network buzzword generation by means of memetics. Le Fu Zuo (2001) in the Interpretation of the Semantic Generation and Variation of the Popular Network 杯具 from the Perspective of Memetics, starting with the analysis of the online buzzword 杯具, explaining the role of memetics in the generation of online buzzwords. Chen Jianwei (2008) reviewed the development and research of online buzzwords in Network Popular Language Research, and then discussed its composition types and characteristics. Finally, the network buzzwords were analyzed from the perspective of cultural chemistry. With the rapid development of the Internet, the connotation and extension of the network buzzwords are constantly expanding and extending. The existing researches can not fully explain the new phenomena appearing in the network buzzwords.

    1. Layout of the Study

This thesis draws on the ecological point of view, and takes the buzzwords of the Internet in recent years as the corpus, and analyses the Chinese Internet buzzwords from the ecological perspective. The paper draws on the basic theories of ecology such as the idea of diversity, dynamics, and ecological environment to study online buzzwords, and combines official attitudes to explore some changes in the ecological environment of online buzzwords.

First of all, this paper uses the methods of consulting literature and collecting data. The author uses the library and HowNet to understand the research status as well as some research gaps in the subject, and determine the direction and significance of the research, using Baidu and major websites to collect examples of online buzzwords in recent years. The second is the method of description and interpretation, describing the network buzzwords and ecological linguistics. Qualitative analysis is also a main method adopted in this paper. Thirdly, the combination of the whole and the case is taken to analyze and study the network buzzwords from the perspective of eco-linguistics, in order to obtain a proper evaluation of the network buzzwords.

This thesis is divided into four parts to analyze Internet buzzwords from the perspective of eco-linguistics. The first chapter reviews the formation and development of eco-linguistics and Internet buzzwords and introduces the layout of the thesis. The second chapter explains the concepts of buzzwords and eco-linguistics, looks into the relationship between Internet buzzwords and ecological awareness from the following aspects: diversity and dynamics. The third chapter discusses the ecological environment of Internet buzzwords and proper attitudes to Internet buzzwords. The forth chapter draws a conclusion.
