应用型人才培养模式下理工科英语专业教学改革探析 An Analysis on Teaching Reform of English Major in Universities of Science and Engineering under the Cultivating Mode of Application-oriented Talents文献综述

With the continuous deepening of reform and opening up, the establishment and improvement of the socialist market economic system, and the rapid development of social economy and science and technology, the weaknesses of the traditional cultivating mode of training professionals have gradually exposed, such as the poor adaptability and low innovation ability of college students.
Thus, the cultivating mode of applied-oriented talents has caused worldwide discussion and exploration. Under this kind of cultivating mode, we aim to find some ways to educate English major students with other specialized knowledge and make them equipped with the ability to apply professional knowledge and skills in professional social practice, and be familiar with the basic conditions of social production and activities.
Many scholars also reflect on the shortcomings of the traditional talent cultivating model when studying the quality crisis of higher education. It is proposed that the innovative talent training mode is the core of cultivating applied-oriented talents. Current studies mainly focus on the following aspects:
Firstly, through an investigation by Xuekun Hu, it is found that to reform the cultivating mode, we should start from the aspects of teaching concept transformation, teaching content reconstruction and teaching method update. So that we can remove certain defects in the thinking mode of college students and train them applied-oriented talents.
Secondly, some people regard the reform on teaching contents as an indispensable part. According to Saad Shawer, a scholar in College of Education, King Saud University, she found that although traditional structural teaching might increase student knowledge of language structures, it failed to improve their ability to communicate through listening, speaking, reading or even writing. Therefore,she recommends CLT(Communicative Language Teaching) as valid and effective for underpinning EFL curriculum innovation and development. Her current study concludes that theoretical understanding of CLT resulted in significant improvement of student learning and motivation when teachers translated its principles into actual classroom practice.
Thirdly, from the perspective of teaching methods, Xiaoxue Zhang and Junnan Wang consider that the foreign language teaching system just like the natural ecosystem and we should adopt methods to reform current cultivating mode according to certain principles of ecology. They find that the teaching elements have changed, and many traditional elements0 (such as teaching materials, content, methods, etc.) have been replaced by new elements (such as multiple media, online content, technical methods, etc.) because of the integration of modern information technology and foreign language courses with computer network. They believe changes in factors will naturally break the balance of the traditional foreign language teaching system environment and it is necessary to examine the interrelationship, interaction and mutual adaptation of the internal elements of the teaching system with the surrounding environment according to the principle of ecology, and explore the characteristics and functions of the foreign language teaching ecology and its evolution.
Lastly, as for the major setting, Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology has divided English major into two directions——“English and American literature” and “Business English”. After four years, they find that the graduates who had taken part in this reform in 2013 had a satisfaction rate of 96%, ranking first in the school, and the proportion of graduates' satisfaction with the profession was 85%.
Above all, we can find that most studies just mention one or two parts of teaching reform of English major under the cultivating mode of applied-oriented Talents. Therefore, this paper will concentrate on different perspectives of English teaching reform and draw a conclusion based on the analysis of representative teaching reform cases so as to provide reference to reform for universities of science and engineering.

By searching the research literature of the past five years, this paper tries to analyze various teaching modes and the confusion of English majors facing in science and engineering universities under the current situation;
Besides, this paper also analyzes the reform measures of foreign language teaching in China and abroad from multiple angles, and establish a four-in-one research system of teaching methods, teaching contents, teaching assessments and major setting;
