摘 要

顺应论从语用学的角度为翻译研究提供了理论框架。顺应论由以动态顺应为核心的实现顺应性的语境关联，实现顺应性的结构客体，顺应性的动态实现和顺应过程的意识突显构成。当译者将源语言翻译成目标语言的时候，翻译策略和翻译方法的选择应该实现对语境，文化差异，历史背景的顺应。无论是直译和意译，还是归化和异化，都是实现顺应的方法和策略。本文主要从维索尔伦的顺应论视域下浅析将中国传统文化翻译成目标语言所用的翻译策略，主要是研究杨宪益译本《红楼梦》中所用到的服饰翻译技巧。在翻译的过程中，译者必须顺应宏观和微观语境，语言结构以及源语和目的语的习惯，采用动态翻译方法，才能翻译成功。杨宪益《红楼梦》译本为顺应论视角下翻译策略和方法的选择提供了范例。

Abstract

The Adaptation theory provides theoretical structure for translation study from the perspective of pragmatics. Adaptation theory is consisted of the contextual correlates of adaptability, the structural objects of adaptability, the dynamics of adaptability as well as the salience of the adaptation processes, and the core of adaptation theory is the dynamics of adaptability. Translation strategies and methods must take context, culture and historical background into consideration when translators translate source language into target language. Literal translation and free translation, domestication and foreignization, they are all strategies and methods of achieving adaptation. This paper mainly analyze the translation strategies when translators translate traditional Chinese culture into the target language under the adaption quality of Verschueren's adaptation theory, and it mainly analyze the costumes' translation in A Dream of Red Mansions. In order to translate successfully, translators must adapt both macro and micro linguistic contexts, linguistic structures as well as the custom constituents of the source language and the target language, as well as adopt dynamic translation methods. Yang Xianyi's version of A Dream of Red Mansions provides good example for strategies analysis under the perspective of adaptation theory.

——Taking Yang Xianyi’s Version as An Example

1 Introduction

1.1 Background and Significance of Present Study

The history of translation as an independent discipline is very short , and various translation theories and strategies are emerging and intricate. There is no widely acknowledged and unified theory for translation. Therefore, many scholars want to provide some criteria for translation from the perspective of other theories. Verschueren's adaptation theory points out that the process of using language is a process of selection, which provides a new perspective for the translation of Chinese classical literature. Many scholars apply the adaptation theory to the field of translation, and the adaptation theory is also applied to the translation of Chinese traditional culture. However, there are few translations of Chinese traditional costumes. What’s more, fewer translators apply adaptation theory in the translation of Chinese traditional costumes. As one of the most famous Chinese works, Hong Lou Meng describes various attires, especially embodies the clothing characteristics of Qing and Ming dynasties.Therefore, for the study of the clothing translation in Hong Lou Meng, the adaptation theory will provide a lot of new ideas and usher a new era, whether it is in the development of the adaptation theory itself, or traditional Chinese clothing translation.

1.2 Structure of the Study

In order to get more specific analysis, the paper will adopt rational deductive methods, inductive methods as well as the quantitative methods to analyze the source language and the target language. The paper will collect a large number of English translations of clothing and Chinese source language from A Dream of Red Mansions. Through the compare and contrast of the source language and target language, the paper will analyze the translation strategies of traditional attire from the perspective of adaptation theory.

The first part presented a brief introduction. Firstly, the significance of present research is presented. Then the methodology of the paper and the organization of the paper is described.
