1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述)
for the english language learners, the vocabulary is one ofthe important standard that indicates their language ability. in china, tograsp the correct usage of the vocabulary is still a big challenge for englishlearners even when they are in the college. the difficulty not only lies in thelearners’ lack of the acquired vocabulary, the more lies in the shortage ofcertain vocabulary collocation ability.
the verb is anindispensable part in every language as well as the most difficult part toacquire and the collocation is a key and difficult point in learning. thus, itis the reason that many students have acquired many vocabularies but stillcannot speak or write english as mother tongues.
most of the scholars at homeand abroad did corpus-based studies on verb collocation and have achieved greatresults. kennedy (2000) did a study about the certain phrases “you know” insentences based on several english corpuses like brown corpus and lob corpus.he studied the changing meaning of the phrases and found out the specialfunction of it in the process of language change.
2. 研究的基本内容与方案
This thesis focuses on thecollocation errors between verbs and objects. The reason is that verbs are theindispensable part of grammar and verbs have strong ability to collocate withother words, the collocation with objects is the most common in Englishwriting. Unlike the most studies about collocation errors in China, this paperwill be partly based on the corpus established by the status of graduates andpostgraduates’ English writing in Wuhan University of Technology. And theresults will be hoped to be the same as the other studies based on CLEC.
This study is planned to choose100 compositions (50 each in undergraduates and postgraduates’ status) in thecorpus at random and the software adopted for analysis would be AntConc, whichis a free software downloadable from the web and has a powerful set of toolsthat are useful to researchers. Then the author can divided the collocationerrors into several types and summarize the regulation from some typicalexamples, through which the causes to the collocation errors might be foundout. The analysis of verb-object collocation errors in the corpus is hoped toenable us to have a better understanding of Chinese EFL learners’ interlanguagesystem. Also, the explanations of the causes to collocation errors may provideus the reasons that why the learners have difficulty in writing and commitcollocation errors. This study may come up with some findings helpful to theteaching and learning of collocations.
