created in june, 1981, china daily is the only chinesenewspaper which accesses in the world mainstream society and be reprintedhigher than any other kind of national newspapers by foreign media. also, itcaters a lot of large international conferences, becoming the first choice ofchinese english media for high-ranking people from countries. as an importantwindow for chinese people and foreigners to know and learn each other, it aimsat ‘let the world know china and let china enter the world.’ during itsdevelopment, china daily hasestablished various classifications such as sports, culture, religion,business, lifestyle and travel for readers to find their needed articles andnews with convenience. certainly, since the tendency of globalization, all thecontents in china daily are publishedin at least two kinds of languages, chinese and english. both languages arewritten by professional and official editors who are selected seriously andstrictly. therefore, scholars always choose it as a main material to studyabout the differences between chinese and english media. however, some aspectsare still ignored to study although they may have profound influence onlinguistic development or other fields, and also, some researches are notstudied thoroughly and deeply. therefore, in my opinion, the study of personfeatures inevitably becomes my first choice since a deeper understanding of itcould help us seize the writing better and explore and find more proper writingtechniques.

news features are classified intoseveral kinds including event feature, scene feature, environment feature, workfeature, person feature and other features. among these, person features arewildly used because of their own characteristics. always in a piece of news,the leading role is a person, even though in some observations of animals andplants, there is an observer. therefore, the key role of a person in newsdecides that the proper use of person feature should be attached importance to.through the recurrence of person’s actions of the vivid, strong and dynamicimages will appear in our brains and help us understand the character or theevent better. every country has its own culture, religious background andlanguage, thus they are different from each other about writing techniques inperson feature. however, china daily is not a traditionally chinese local media, but it is also not a totallyenglish newspaper since most of its writers, editors and reporters are chinese.therefore, the author would like to base on its situation to analyze the personfeatures in china daily, suchprofiles can be studied in several aspects including linguistics,characteristics and context.

2. 研究的基本内容与方案

person features are wildly used in newsmedia, meanwhile, it is also used in other kinds of writings, which is theindispensable ability for all of us who write. therefore, a deep understandingin person features is conducive to better seize the writing. in this paper, theauthor will use academic methods including content analysis, case analysis andcomparison and contrast to study the person features in china daily. the study will be conducted with the combination ofnews writing methods such as news narratology, to state this writing feature,which is between two kinds of culture and raise author’s own opinion about howto improve it. during the study process, the author will select about 30 piecesof most popular news which contain person features as its basic material andread them in depth and analyze. meanwhile, some published papers about mediawriting analysis and person features analysis written by scholars are collectedto learn and probe critically, so as to perfect the author’s own study resultand find better ways to improve the practice of journalism. the paper will beparted into five. the first part is the purpose, meaning and method of thestudy. the second part is to further illustrate the significance of personfeatures in news media based on the world’s current situation, the developmentof china and the basic theory of person feature. the third part is to analyzethe person features in several aspects and put forward some ideas about thedeficiency of present writing techniques and how to improve it in the fourthpart. finally the conclusion will summarize the main content to give reader amore clear analysis procedure and result.
