literature review

while searching for the relevant material about the two works, i find many scholars are interested in studying the two works. academic articles and the published books are over hundreds. after looking through the available resources, i find that most articles focused on the three aspects, namely, the theme, the character and the artistic features of writing.

william golding and shirley jackson are regarded as the important modernist writers in literature. by exploring in depth into the consciousness and irrational behavior, they both are pessimistic about human nature and future which are fully embodied in lord of the flies and the lottery. therefore, i make the study through a set of comparisons of the unique writing techniques, profound themes and lifelike characters.
