A Tale of Two Cities is a novel by Charles Dickens, set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. Tea house is a drama by Laoshe, set in Beijing from the early 1900s to the founding of The People's Republic of China. Both stories took place in the unsettled times when the Aristocratic class were declining. This paper focuses on the two declining aristocratic characters-Charles Darney in A Tale of Two Cities and Chang Siye in Teahouse, aiming at exploring the similarities and differences between them and analyzing the causes from the aspects of social background, social status and interpersonal relationships. The comparison is original and can give readers a new understanding of the two characters, the two works and the social changes in France and China.
