A Case Study of Image Translation in Li Bai’s Poetry by Xu Yuanchong
Chapter 1.
The Moon over Eyebrow Mountains,1.1 Li Bai and his poems
Li Bai is a representative romantic poet in the Prime Tang Dynasty, who is one of the most productive poets in the history. He has a heroic character and it leads him travel throughout North and South. During his life, he created so many famous poems and they are spread through the ages, among which the most outstanding series is the romantic poetry. In classical Chinese poems, Li Bai’s poems is not only one of the most brilliant treasure of it, but also a sparkling pearl in world literary history.
His poems are bold and unrestrained, fresh and elegant, with rich imagination and artistic language, which are so wonderful, and lively that he was called "shixian" by people. Li Bai’s poems not only have the typical romantic spirit, but also the image. No matter the material intake, the use of genre selection or various artistic techniques, all of them absolutely reveal the characteristics of romantic art quintessence. However, with the talents in literature, he has a high self expectation and despises dignitaries as a commoner, and brazenly mocks the center of the rank order and political power, as well as political corruption phenomenon, with bold revolt, promoting the culture of Tang Dynasty in the spirit of heroism. Seeing his poetry, it can be found that Li Bai’s ideology of anti power is becoming more and more conscious and mature. (Zhou Rong, 2012)

The same image in different national culture however expresses different emotions, which is the crux and difficulty of poems translation. The traditional study of poetic image focuses on the language, emphasizing the structure of poems or the equivalence of prosody. (Zhang Zhizhong, 2006)
