from ancient times to the present, wedding is an important ceremony and a milestone in human's life. it is the reflection of marriage. all ethnic groups and countries have their own traditional wedding ceremony which is the inheritance path of their folk culture and also the ritual of their own national culture and education. because of different human species, different environments, different living habits and other reasons, wedding customs of each nation are various. it is also true with china and america. of course, the united states is a country with western culture. under the influence of different cultures between china and the u.s., wedding, as an important part of culture, have presented different customs.

1. research topic

this thesis discusses the wedding differences between china and the u. s. from the perspective of values. different attitudes towards marriages in the two cultures have caused the wedding differences between the two countries. the values they hold have a significant impact on their marriage, family or even the whole society. with today's increasingly frequent exchanges between china and the u.s., understanding the differences between chinese and western cultures is of great significance in improving the competence of cross-cultural communication. if we do not have a certain cross-cultural ability, then we are likely to lose ourselves in multiculturalism, or to narrowly have our own culture superior to other cultures. therefore, this paper help improve the cultural exchange between chinese and western countries and help people form the right views of marriage. last but not the least, we should treat the similarities and differences of wedding culture between china and the u.s. correctly and promote their mutual integration.
