the character of somebody means the inherent complex of attributes that determine a person moral and ethical actions and reactions. holden is a self-contradicted boy that he despised this society but finally couldn#8217;t change anything. he wanted to escape all the time and resist the reality such as the failure education system, his rude classmates or the social situation. his character is doomed to his failure in that society. we can say that it is the character of holden that determined his fate. so it is necessary and meaningful to analyze holden's character. this thesis is aimed to make an intertextual analysis of the protagonist holden's character and find out what has shaped him such a personality.
